Master of Arts Environment
Introduction
The Master of Arts Environment and Society at LMU Munich focuses on the complex relationships between humans and their environment. The program builds on scholarship in the environmental humanities, drawing on histories of the (built) environment, studies in science, technology, and society, anthropology, philosophy, art history, and literary studies. Students study topics such as climate change, transformations of urban and rural environments, biodiversity loss, conservation, environmental justice, pollution, and public health.
The degree is full-time and lasts 4 semesters, awarding 120 ECTS credit points. Students complete eight mandatory core modules, including a Final Module in the last semester, and select electives for the remaining credits. Coursework includes field trips and excursions, and students learn to think across disciplines while critically analysing and communicating challenges and solutions related to the environment.
