Master of Science

Master of Science is a Masters program taught at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, Germany. Intake: Winter semester only. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 semesters) options.

The Master of Science in Psychology in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at Heidelberg University focuses on psychological-scientific skills and preparation for later work in a psychotherapeutic context. Based on empirical research, students work on describing, understanding, and predicting human behaviour, and on deriving implications for psychological interventions. The programme includes areas such as research methods and diagnostics, disorders and procedures in psychotherapy, applied psychotherapy, documentation, evaluation and review, and self-reflection.

The programme is practice-focused and includes comprehensive psychotherapy contents and methods taught through lectures and psychotherapeutic techniques and skills acquired and tested in outpatient and (partly) inpatient work placements in small groups and seminars. Students attend seminars of their choice, test initial clinical-psychological skills in practice-related case seminars, and complete a research component with a Master’s thesis. The standard period of study is 4 semesters, and the programme is divided into specified study areas.

Heidelberg University states that the Master’s degree qualifies graduates to work in psychological-psychotherapeutic professional fields, including psychotherapeutic practices, psychiatric clinics, or neuropsychological rehabilitation centres. The university also states that graduates may work in a counselling and public capacity or pursue a scientific career, for example in psychotherapy research. The programme meets requirements for Master’s degree programmes for admission to the state licensing examination as psychotherapists.

The minimum requirements for admission in Master of Science at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:
