Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching)
Introduction
Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) is a Bachelor program taught at Dublin City University, Ireland. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 Years) options.
Dublin City University’s Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) prepares students for a career as a Primary School Teacher. The programme equips students with subject knowledge and with leadership and communication skills. Students learn how children think and learn, and how to motivate students in the classroom through interactive lectures and curriculum courses.
The course includes a structured year-by-year focus. In Years 1 and 2, students cover basics needed for teaching and take modules in Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology of Education and History of Education. Year 3 applies learning to classroom contexts and planning for rich learning experiences. Year 4 deepens expertise and includes a research project.
Placement is part of the programme, with time in schools in each year and extended placements in Years 3 and 4. Students start by observing the class teacher, then build up gradually to teaching all day. Students also visit the Gaeltacht for four weeks. The BEd also enables specialisation in key areas of learning.
