The Biotecnologie (L-2) undergraduate degree at Viterbo State University is designed to give a basic and interdisciplinary preparation in the biotechnology sector. It trains students for work in areas such as agro-food-environmental, industrial, pharmaceutical, bio-medical and veterinary, and in scientific communication, or for continuing studies at higher levels.
Training includes basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology, plus theoretical and practical knowledge in fields including genetics, biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, fermentation biotechnology, plant and animal biotechnology (including applications to agro-food production), and industrial biotechnology. Admission includes a non-selective entry test and an English placement test.
Admission Requirements
The minimum requirements for admission in Biotecnologie at Viterbo State University for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

Admission is open access (accesso libero). Enrollment is possible for students who have a secondary school leaving diploma or another qualification obtained abroad recognized as suitable under current regulations.
- To check entry preparation, all students complete a test to verify baseline knowledge of mathematics and chemistry from secondary school. The test has no selective purpose and does not limit or prevent enrollment; it helps students address gaps to follow lessons effectively and take first-year exams more easily.
- The test is passed with correct answers to 60% of the basic Mathematics questions and 60% of the Chemistry questions.
- If the result is negative, it does not prevent enrollment, but it creates an entry learning debt (OFA) that must be completed during the first year through recovery activities called Corso di Livellamento for basic Mathematics and for Chemistry.
- An English Language Placement Test is mandatory.
- The test is held at the University Language Centre in October on dates and details published on the DIBAF site.
- A second test session is scheduled between December and January.
- The test lasts about 20 minutes and is electronic; dictionaries or grammar books are not allowed.
- A recognized international certification at least at level B1 (for example, PET or FIRST from Cambridge, Grade 6-Trinity) issued no earlier than two years before enrollment can exempt the student from taking the test.
