Bachelor's in Games Development

Games Development BA (Hons) at Bath Spa University is a single-honours undergraduate degree focused on making games and playful experiences. Students work with modules such as Rules of Play, CodeLab I, 2D Game Art, Sound for Games, Indie Game Design, Narrative Design and Gameplay, and Extended Realities. The course covers programming and game engines, building 2D and 3D assets, interactive narratives, sound, and gameplay testing through mini game jams and project work.

Students are taught through making, including game jams, collaborative briefs, and studio days. Assessment is entirely coursework assessed, with work across games and playful experiences, and portfolios of art assets, code, sound design, and interaction experiments. The Professional Placement Year provides professional experience through one to three placements over a minimum of nine months, with assessments that demonstrate skill development and professional behaviours.

The course includes a professional studio stage through Games Studio and Industry Ready modules, with advice and feedback from regional professional game designers, developers, and producers.
