Introduction

Medieval studies is a program taught at University of St. Andrews, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Medieval studies at the University of St Andrews covers a period from late antiquity to the 15th century, across regions from the Middle East and the Mediterranean to the British Isles and Scandinavia. Students study through multiple disciplines, including art history, divinity, history, languages, literature, and philosophy. The programme supports work such as deciphering historical manuscripts, studying ancient writing systems, and speaking and writing in medieval languages.

St Andrews offers an interdisciplinary MLitt in Medieval Studies through the St Andrews Institute of Medieval Studies (SAIMS). Research in medieval studies is distributed through several Schools and Departments, with research centres and institutes including SAIMS, the Institute of Scottish Historical Research, and the Institute of Legal and Constitutional Research.
