Introduction

EdD - Doctor of Education is a PhD program taught at Capella University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Capella University’s Doctor of Education (EdD) is an online doctoral program for experienced practitioners. It is designed around applied research and focuses on solving specific organizational problems, improving outcomes, and addressing gaps in the field. Students build leadership skills and practice inquiry, research, leadership, cultural competency, and collaboration. The program includes a doctoral project focused on an applied improvement project for an organization of the student’s choice.

The EdD offers five specializations: Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Performance Improvement Leadership, and Reading and Literacy. Learning is delivered online with two course-taking formats: a structure with weekly deadlines and regular check-ins, and another option where students can take one or two courses at a time, set their own deadlines, and complete courses in a billing session. Students complete deliverables embedded across courses.

The program is presented as a fit for P–12 or higher education practitioners and practicing professionals. Capella also describes academic and career support, including one-on-one enrollment and advising support, writing center and tutoring services, and career support such as resume help, interview preparation, and a job listings database. A Career Development Center provides coaching and networking.
