M.A.T. in Special Education
Introduction
M.A.T. in Special Education is a Masters program taught at Catholic University of America, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The M.A.T. in Special Education is a 42-credit master’s program that leads to a master’s degree and initial Illinois licensure in Special Education. The licensure is endorsed for Learning Behavioral Specialist I (K to age 22). The program prepares students to teach and assess diverse learners who have exceptional needs, including children, adolescents, and young adults, and to provide supports and interventions for students with disabilities.
Students study through a flexible format that can be completed in one to two years, with delivery options including in-person, remote, or a mix of both. The program includes extended field experiences in special education classrooms, designed to connect practice with theory. It offers two tracks: Traditional, for most candidates, and Teacher Resident, for candidates accepted into the teacher residency licensure partner program.
