Introduction

M.Ed. in Special Education is a Masters program taught at Catholic University of America, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (one to two years) options.

The Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education is a 42-credit program that prepares students for roles working with children, adolescents, and young adults with exceptional needs. The curriculum prepares students to teach and assess diverse learners and to provide the supports and interventions students with disabilities need to access education.

The program is designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree. It uses flexible delivery that can include in-person, remote, or a mix of both, and includes extended field experiences in special education classrooms. Students complete the program in one to two years.

The program leads to a master’s degree and initial Illinois licensure in Special Education endorsed for Learning Behavioral Specialist I (K to age 22). It offers Traditional, Teacher Resident, and Alternative Licensure tracks, with the Alternative Licensure track including an intensive summer jumpstart, followed by paid placement in a Chicago-area school under mentorship while the candidate completes the M.A.T.
