Introduction

Art Education is a Bachelor program taught at Christian Brothers University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Art Education (BS) is a K-12 teacher licensure program in visual arts education for the state of Illinois. Students build and apply skills across art studio, art history, and the role and function of art in general education and the culture it serves. The program is grounded in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior knowledge base and uses a “teacher as an inquirer-professional” model, with coursework focused on knowledge application and development, instructional process, context and foundations of education, learners and learning, interpersonal relation skills, and professional relationships.

Students develop as an artist-teacher and as a professional teacher. They observe and interact with art education professionals in diverse art program settings and have access to facilities and equipment for creating art, presenting lessons, and writing curriculum. The program includes intensive student teaching for one semester in two school settings at K-12 public schools throughout Illinois. Students also gain hands-on experience through internship opportunities such as the Summer Arts Program for grades K-8, and they may participate in the student chapter of the National Art Education Association.
