Introduction

Medical Technology is a Masters program taught at Christian Brothers University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Medical Technology (Specialization) is designed for students who wish to become medical technologists certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. The program focuses on the theory behind diagnostic tests used in the clinical laboratory and covers responsibilities across clinical chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology, immunology, blood and organ banking, microbiology, parasitology, and nuclear medicine.

The first three years take place on the SIUE campus. Students complete general education requirements and build core knowledge and skills in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. The fourth year is clinical/professional study in a clinical laboratory setting at an affiliated hospital school of medical technology, and acceptance to this last year is competitive. During the clinical year, students enroll at SIUE for 36 hours of credit through courses including blood banking, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, serology, and urinalysis.

Students earn a Bachelor of Science in biology with a specialization in medical technology after four years. After successful completion, students are eligible to apply for examination by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. If they pass, they are certified as medical technologists.
