Introduction

Applied Mathematics major is a Bachelor program taught at Colgate University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Applied Mathematics major at Colgate University requires 9 courses plus two non-MATH cognates. It includes preparatory courses MATH 161 (Calculus I) and MATH 162 (Calculus II), each completed or taken as approved equivalent experience by the department chair. Required mathematics courses include MATH 163 (Calculus III), MATH 214 (Linear Algebra), MATH 260 (Computational Mathematics) and MATH 260L, and MATH 376 (Numerical Analysis) and MATH 377 (Real Analysis I).

To complete the major, each student must produce a thesis, normally done through MATH 481 or MATH 482. Joint theses are allowed but will not normally be considered for honors. Students also choose elective courses: one elective from 200-level or above and two electives from 300-level or above, where the courses have an APEL attribute. Two non-Math electives with an APNM attribute complete the two non-MATH cognates requirement, representing fields of application outside Mathematics.
