Introduction

World Languages is a program taught at Covenant College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The World Languages department offers majors and minors in French and Spanish. Students also take beginner and intermediate level courses in American Sign Language (ASL) and linguistics, and Greek and Hebrew courses in collaboration with Biblical and Theological Studies.

The curriculum focuses on culture, conversation, literature, structure, and writing, with emphasis on the Hispanic and Francophone worlds. Each semester, the department offers cultural and linguistic opportunities with Hispanic and Francophone communities. Recent senior capstone projects include topics such as slang, cultural identity in literature, and educational challenges of English language learners.

All majors complete a one-semester-long immersive language study session to qualify for graduation. Students are encouraged to study abroad after the intermediate level and typically take four courses during that semester. The program also includes the Language Lab with tutor meetings, weekly conversation tables, international television channels, online language drills, and audio recording software.
