Introduction

East Asian Studies is a program taught at Davidson College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The East Asian Studies Major at Davidson College is an interdisciplinary program built around comprehensive study of at least one East Asian civilization, including its culture, history, and contemporary conditions. It requires study in language, literature, history, religion, and social sciences, with advanced study of Chinese as the core of the major. If students become proficient in Chinese by the sophomore year, they may study a second East Asian language for the major.

Majors complete study or independent research in East Asia during summer, semester, or year. Advanced training in an East Asian language in the United States, such as Middlebury or Monterrey, may count toward this requirement. Majors who maintain a GPA of at least 3.5 in major courses and successfully complete an honors thesis receive honors in East Asian Studies. The program also includes an East Asian Studies Interdisciplinary Minor for students majoring elsewhere.
