Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD)
Introduction
Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is a Bachelor program taught at Elms College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Communication Sciences and Disorders major at Elms College prepares students to help people with speech, language, and hearing conditions. Students study human physiology, neuroscience, and speech and language disorders to diagnose and treat factors that affect communication. The curriculum includes courses such as Introduction to CSD, Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech Mechanism, Phonetics and Phonology, Speech & Hearing Science, and Audiology.
Instruction is organized around classroom learning and clinical practicum experience. Students gain 100 hours or more of hands-on experience working alongside a local speech-language pathologist in a school setting. They use theories, diagnostics, and treatments from coursework with diverse student populations. Students also have a student speech and hearing lab and may have the option to bridge practicum experience into a graduate program, with many schools accepting up to 75 practicum hours toward a master’s or doctoral degree.
