The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences at Fontbonne University prepares students to aid in the diagnosis and potential treatment of human diseases. The program combines science background with clinical experience through accredited, teaching-hospital laboratory partnerships, including work in areas such as pathogens, cells, tissues, and genes.

Students complete an initial program of study at Fontbonne and then complete an additional fully on-site clinical period at Mercy Hospital in the School of Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Mercy Hospital provides all instruction during that clinical period. Clinical coursework includes urinalysis, hematology, blood bank, immunology/serology, and mycology.

The program uses small, interactive classes and faculty mentorship, along with real-world experiences and observations in accredited teaching-hospital laboratories. Students must be accepted into the Mercy Hospital program to attend the on-site clinical period; if they are not accepted, they may complete their bachelor’s in biology at Fontbonne.
