Introduction

The Biology, B.A. at Fresno Pacific University explores life from the smallest organisms to complex ecosystems. Students study topics such as molecular biology, human biology, ecology, and biodiversity, and they take courses that include bioethics and the history and philosophy of science. The program also supports faith and science engagement through coursework and learning outcomes tied to the philosophical basis of science.
Coursework includes hands-on study and field experiences. Students may study ecology in Kings Canyon National Park or observe marine life along California’s Central Coast. The curriculum includes biology, chemistry, physical science, and mathematics beyond general education prerequisites, with a required minimum of 120 units for the bachelor’s degree. Students complete required courses and can choose an emphasis.
Students choose one emphasis: General Emphasis, Environmental, Human Health, Secondary Teaching, or an Individualized emphasis. Secondary Teaching includes preparation steps for a credential program. Students also complete capstone research through one-on-one faculty work and may participate in summer and study abroad programs.
