Associate in Arts Associate in Science
Introduction
Associate in Arts Associate in Science is a Diploma program taught at George C Wallace State Community College-Selma, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degree program is intended for students who plan to transfer to a senior institution for a course of study in a liberal arts area.
It is designed to meet the requirements of the first two years of a Bachelor of Arts degree, with transfer preparation for areas including fine arts, humanities, law, foreign language, social sciences, and education-related disciplines.
It can also serve as a general studies pathway for students who want a liberal arts baccalaureate education.
The degree uses an academic-area structure with semester hour distribution requirements. Written Composition requires Written Composition I and II (ENG 101 and ENG 102). Humanities and Fine Arts includes literature, arts, oral communications (SPH 106 or 107), and additional humanities.
Natural Sciences and Math requires pre-calculus algebra or finite math level math and natural sciences with one laboratory experience. History, Social, and Behavioral Sciences include history plus social and behavioral sciences. Pre-Professional, Pre-Major, and Elective courses complete degree and transfer needs through an approved university-parallel (STARS) plan.
A sample plan shows a four-semester sequence mixing ORI 110, ENG 101, ENG 102, MTH 112, HIS 201 or 101, electives such as MUS 101 or PHL 206 or REL 151 or 152, CIS 130, CIS 146, BIO/PHY options, SPH 106, PSY 200, ENG 271, ECO courses, HED 224, and SOC 200.
The plan is sample only; students are advised based on placement scores and may need developmental courses. A total of 61 semester hours is shown for the General Studies AS.
