The Jurisprudence, Law, and Justice Studies Program at Hamilton College is an interdisciplinary program focused on how the theory, practice, and meaning of law shape civic engagement. Students study the law through coursework that emphasizes writing, speaking, and logical reasoning, including topics such as the Constitution, free-speech issues, court procedures, arguing legal cases, and reading the writing of imprisoned people.
Students engage with law through course options such as Introduction to Law, Courts and Judicial Process, Survey of Constitutional Law, Restorative Justice, and Free Speech Theory. They also take part in the Justice Laboratory: Experience and Observation, which requires two 3 hour, half-day periods each week, plus discussion, journaling, and a research paper that synthesizes parts of the Justice Lab.
