Bachelor's in Game Design and Development
Introduction
Game Design and Development is a Bachelor program taught at Hampshire College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
Game Design and Development at Hampshire College focuses on giving students a foundation for further work in the field or outside it. Students build skills through teamwork, communication, iterative development, playtesting and user testing, storytelling, game programming, 2D and 3D art and animation, game design, audio design, entrepreneurship, and project management. Students also design and develop their own games as part of their studies.
The program is project-based and supports interdisciplinary teams. Students work with peers and advisors to craft games of their own design and develop portfolio pieces. Frequent critiques are used to build skills in giving and receiving feedback. Course assignments are project-based and are intended to support practice of skills and create additions to a portfolio.
Students use Hampshire learning and production facilities, including a game lab with modern consoles, a game library of digital and analog games to check out and play, and the Hampshire College Cluster Computing Facility. The cluster named fly includes a Beowulf-style computer cluster used for research and for computing tasks such as evolutionary computation research, simulations, and 3D rendering.
