Animation and Digital Art

Animation and Digital Art is a Bachelor program taught at Hampshire College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Animation and Digital Art at Hampshire College focuses on work across animation and digital art, from traditional stop-motion photography and paper cutouts to computer-created worlds. The program uses individualized training paired with interdisciplinary collaboration between studio artists, animators, filmmakers, composers, and computer scientists. Students develop their own voices and take part in substantial team-based projects.

Learning includes studio and production work, with examples such as an introduction to animated filmmaking that uses readings, screenings, and discussions and leads to production assignments using both traditional and digital animation tools. Hampshire provides e-classrooms, several computer labs, and media labs with industry-standard software for computer animation and video editing, plus facilities for film editing, imaging, and photography, and a 42-node linux cluster for render, composite, or compute work.

Students also connect with the independent production house Bit Films for internship and mentoring opportunities, supported through a close relationship between Hampshire and Five-College students. Graduates are prepared to pursue careers as independent artists and/or as well-trained specialists in industry, with alumni working at Pixar Animation Studios, Rhythm & Hues Studios, South Park, and the Cartoon Network.

The minimum requirements for admission in Animation and Digital Art at Hampshire College for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:
