Film and Media Studies Concentration
Introduction
Film and Media Studies Concentration is a program taught at Kalamazoo College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
Film and Media Studies at Kalamazoo College is a concentration that examines how mainstream and oppositional creative works engage audiences, shape understanding, and affect broader culture. Students critically study films’ aesthetic craftsmanship and the history in which they were made, including topics such as ethics, politics, and economics through portrayals of race, gender, and class in film production and consumption.
The concentration includes courses on the history, theory, and criticism of domestic and international film, alongside applied courses on creating film and media. Students also take classes across English, philosophy, religion, music, art and art history, theatre, and language departments. Students complete a Senior Integrated Project (SIP), which can include internships, creating films, or pursuing cinematic research, and the program provides access to a campus film studio for producing, creating, editing, and starring in student productions.
