American Sign Language
Introduction
American Sign Language is a program taught at Lake Region State College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The American Sign Language Certificate program enhances students’ understanding of Deaf culture while developing fluency in American Sign Language (ASL). It also fulfills Humanities credit requirements, offering an alternative to traditional History or Art courses while building communication skills.
Students study ASL through required classes that cover American Sign Language I and II, specialized vocabulary, fingerspelling and numbers, and Deaf culture. Practical interpreting skills are developed through an ASL internship, and students pursuing an ASL degree can train with professional interpreters and work directly with Deaf individuals.
This program is especially beneficial for students pursuing careers in related fields, including Early Childhood Associate and Nursing.
