Introduction

Automotive Technology–Comprehensive is an Associate Degree at Madison Area Technical College. The program focuses on bumper-to-bumper diagnostics, repair, preventive maintenance, and preparation for advanced positions in the automotive field or for a four-year degree. It combines technical training from the Automotive Technician technical diploma with general education courses in math, economics, writing, communication, and human relations.

Students complete hands-on automotive technical courses using modern tools and equipment to build skills in diagnosis, service, troubleshooting, testing, repair, and overhaul.

Training covers electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, including automatic transmission/transaxles, manual transmissions/transaxle, differentials, drive axles, ignition systems, computer control and sensors, emission systems, lighting, complete brake systems, and heating and air conditioning systems.

Delivery is 100% in person, with automotive technical courses offered at the Madison College Truax campus, and general education classes offered in-person at various campuses or online.
