Computer-Aided Design/3D Modeling
Introduction
Computer-Aided Design/3D Modeling is a program taught at Merced College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Computer-Aided Design & 3D Modeling Certificate shows that you are familiar with 2D and basic 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs. You learn to use AutoCAD and SketchUp to create 2D drawings and 3D models. You also learn ways to modify AutoCAD to suit your drawing style and increase productivity. A Certificate of Achievement is available after successful completion of the 12-unit core.
Merced College provides instruction through the Drafting Technology program, divided into Architectural and Mechanical tracts. Training covers Drafting Standards, 2D and 3D AutoCAD, Direct 3D modeling with SketchUp and Inventor Fusion, and parametric 3D modeling programs such as Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks, and Creo. Students also complete Rendering/Animation using 3DS Max for presentations, with exercises connected to work tasks.
The program prepares students for drafting-related roles and includes options to design products for online sales through 3D Printing Services such as Materialise, Shapeways, and Sculpteo. Completing an AA degree program or the certificate of completion can support employment as a drafting technician, CAD operator, engineering assistant/technician, or home designer.
