Introduction
Graphic and Digital Design is a Diploma program taught at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (2 years) options.
Graphic and Digital Design at Minnesota State Community and Technical College offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and a Certificate at the Moorhead Campus. The AAS option (60 credits) focuses on essentials such as photography, color theory, typography, layout and design, and web and print production, with practice integrating digital technology. Students work on visual concepts using drawing and computer programs and apply theories of design, color, and typography.
The program includes preparation of digital files for printing and an understanding of offset print production. Students also practice communication skills related to advertising, graphic design, digital graphic technology, and print production, including interpreting, speaking, writing, and editing. The AAS may include an internship to present ideas and concepts. The 30-credit certificate is a two-semester fast-track option designed to build on existing skills and supports accelerated placement goals.
By the end of the program, students complete a design portfolio that showcases technical and creative work. The AAS prepares students for an entry-level position in the industry, or they may advance their studies at a four-year college or university. The program also includes opportunities to connect with regional graphic design professionals and employers through events such as the annual American Advertising Federation competition, along with mock interviews, guest speakers, and tours.
