Introduction

Carpentry Apprentice is a program taught at Nicolet Area Technical College, USA. Intake: Fall. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3–4 years) options.

The Carpentry Apprentice program prepares apprentices to construct, install, or repair structures, fixtures, and building frameworks using carpentry hand and power tools. Students learn to build wood framing for houses, roofs, stairs, decks, and sheaths, and to work with forms for concrete and frame buildings. Training also covers interior and exterior finish work, blueprint reading, measurement, and calculating dimensions.

Instruction follows an apprenticeship program with eight terms of carpentry apprenticeship courses. It includes on-the-job training and paid related instruction plus unpaid related instruction.

Term work covers safe tool practices, construction drawings and print reading, building layout, residential floor and wall systems, roof framing, insulation and waterproofing, exterior finishing systems, stair design and deck construction, and interior finish systems including drywall, doors, trims, acoustical ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, and countertops. A final review includes a capstone hands-on project or industry-related activities with other classmates.
