Introduction

Fine Arts, MFA is a Masters program taught at Pratt Institute, USA. Intake: Fall Only. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (2 years) options.

The Fine Arts MFA at Pratt Institute is a graduate, studio-based program with structured study in an area of emphasis: integrated practices, painting and drawing, printmaking, or sculpture. Students develop studio work and expand critical understanding through seminars, critiques, and peer interaction, with emphasis-specific focus such as interdisciplinary approaches (including installation, lens-based and hybrid media, performance, and research-based practices), studio practice in painting and drawing, printmaking techniques and cross-disciplinary study, or sculpture across a range of materials and methods.

Students complete 60 credits over a duration of 2 years. The program supports interdisciplinary practice, and Fine Arts MFA students can use Fine Arts facilities regardless of area of emphasis, with access supported by a one-on-one orientation with a dedicated technician for shop use. The program culminates as described for Painting and Drawing with a written thesis and exhibition.

The curriculum is designed for artists who want to work with both rigorous making and contemporary discourse through sustained dialogue between studio practice and critical engagement. It is delivered through studio training supported by faculty and includes organized studio visits, seminars, and informal conversations within a community of fellow students and faculty.
