Industrial Design, MID
Introduction
Industrial Design, MID is a Masters program taught at Pratt Institute, USA. Intake: Fall Only. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (2 years (possibility for extension)) options.
Industrial Design, MID is a graduate program that prepares students to apply design processes and practices to create objects for the home, products for business, and built environments. Students work within a generalist, humanist structure, including specialized studios and courses that respond to individual interests, plus professional knowledge in historical, societal, and global contexts.
The MID is a two-year, 60-credit program with a Fall-only start. A major part of the program is the Design Thesis, conducted under a Thesis Advisor. Thesis projects address social and environmental issues of global significance, culminate in a formal presentation to invited jurors, and are followed by a presentation of the work at the annual Pratt Show.
Graduates are expected to demonstrate competence in formulating design problems and translating ideas into 2-D and 3-D design solutions, and to apply design process steps using appropriate digital and analogue tools. The program emphasizes ethical and humanistic perspectives, critical design inquiry and research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a life-cycle approach to environmental and social impact.
