Introduction

History is a Bachelor program taught at State University of New York at Binghamton, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The BA in History at Binghamton University is designed around studying human societies over time and across the globe. Courses cover topics such as the modern U.S., ancient China, women and gender history, imperialism, environmental history, and the history of science, technology and medicine. The program also trains students to think critically about how historical knowledge is produced and shared, and to present findings in clear, concise ways.

History majors complete a senior seminar in which a history professor advises them while they conduct their own historical research. Students can also pursue independent study in a faculty member’s area of interest.

Many students submit papers to the student-edited Binghamton Journal of History for publication, and some enroll in faculty-led study abroad programs in Greece, Turkey, or France.

Courses may include student research and community engaged and service learning work, and students can complete an internship for Harpur credit at a local museum or research library.

The program leads to a BA in History and a History minor. Graduates go into careers in business, administration, law, government, and higher education. The department also participates in Phi Alpha Theta, and it holds a ceremony to induct new members and celebrate student award winners.
