Bachelor's in Art & Visual Culture
Introduction
Art & Visual Culture is a Bachelor program taught at Stonehill College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
The Art & Visual Culture major at Stonehill College is an undergraduate B.A. Students study through a core curriculum that supports further exploration of managerial, artistic, and theoretical applications of the visual arts. They then focus through one of two areas: Studio Arts or Visual Studies. The program also offers minors in arts administration, studio arts, or art history.
Students prepare to place works of art in historical, philosophical, and socioeconomic context, and to use critical theory to demonstrate knowledge of at least three art historical methodologies. They also build visual literacy across form, line, shape, rhythm, volume, place, pattern, texture, space, value, color, content, and style in 2D/3D and time-based media. All students complete a Capstone experience where artists, administrators, and scholars conceptualize, produce, and oversee an exhibit.
Study takes place on campus. The Visual Studies concentration includes study of visual products from the past and present, including painting, sculpture, architecture, film, and mass media. Course experiences include a survey exploring major developments in art and architecture, with trips to Boston museums; and courses that include visits to regional museums and galleries.
