Introduction

Veterinary Technician is a program taught at Tyler Junior College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Veterinary Technician program at Tyler Junior College prepares students to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). LVTs assist veterinarians in animal care across fields such as companion animal medicine, agricultural production industries, public health work, zoo animal management, and biomedical research. Typical technician activities include initial animal assessment, acquiring samples for laboratory testing, sterilizing surgical instruments, preparing animals for anesthesia, assisting anesthetic procedures and monitoring, animal restraint, husbandry and treatment, and imaging assistance such as radiology or ultrasound.

Students also support clinical operations through data entry into practice management/medical records software and record-keeping required by regulatory agencies, as well as client education.

Licensure in Texas requires graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technician Program and successful completion of two exams: the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and the LVTE jurisprudence exam administered by the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Specialty certificates may be earned in areas such as ultrasound or behavioral counseling, and a four-year degree may be pursued to become a Veterinary Technologist.

Admissions are open, but enrollment in the program is limited. Applicants complete a program application and submit the application and all supporting documents in one packet delivered or mailed to the Veterinary Technician Program at TJC North. Program outcomes - show an annual graduation rate of 100% and an annual job placement rate of 100%.
