Artisanry—Fibers MFA
Introduction
Artisanry—Fibers MFA is a Masters program taught at University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (two-to-three-year course of study) options.
The MFA in Artisanry—Fibers is an intensive two- to three-year course of study that emphasizes exploration and mastery within contemporary art making. The Fibers program focuses on technical and conceptual exploration, supporting an interdisciplinary approach to fiber as art and design. Students pursue individual areas of interest, including two- or three-dimensional structures and functional or non-functional work.
Students develop personal analytical and critical skills, confidence, and self-discipline for accomplished artistic work through deep exploration of technical processes and a conceptual basis. Close relationships with an advisor, student peers, and a committee support research, experimentation, and ongoing inquiry. Required work includes seminars in professional practices, aesthetic issues, art history, philosophy of art, and support studios, culminating in both a visual and written thesis.
