Introduction

Applied Biomedical Science Apprenticeship is a program taught at University of Texas at Tyler, USA. Intake: September. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (5 years) options.

The Applied Biomedical Science Apprenticeship is a BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science Integrated Degree Apprenticeship (Healthcare Science Practitioner). It takes a multidisciplinary approach to the study of human disease and develops a background in Biomedical Science. The degree aims to support apprentices with systemic knowledge for a career as a Biomedical Scientist, practical experimental skills, and critical awareness of advances in Biomedical Science.

Study is part-time with distance learning. Apprentices attend university one day per semester for practical sessions and complete end of module exams on campus. Other learning uses VLE Canvas and Microsoft Teams, with online synchronised sessions scheduled every four weeks for each module. Work-based learning is completed in the training laboratory alongside an Institute registration training portfolio.

The programme has four specialist pathways: Genetics, Cellular Sciences, Infection Sciences, and Blood Sciences. It is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science and has approval from the Health and Care Professions Council, with potential eligibility to register with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist after successful completion. It may also support becoming a qualified Healthcare Science Practitioner in the specialism.
