Art, Studio

Art, Studio is a Bachelor program taught at Vassar College, USA. Intake: Fall and spring semesters. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Vassar College’s Studio Art program offers courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, video, architecture, and digital art. It also includes hybrid and interdisciplinary classes that cross materials, methods, and media. Students engage in hands-on projects, studies in theory and contemporary art, and sustained assignments focused on observation, invention, research, experimentation, form, and concept.

Studio Art Foundations: Approaches to Making (ART 107) is a one-semester course that runs in both fall and spring semesters. It introduces core practices of contemporary art-making and provides the entry point to the curriculum. Students learn to work iteratively, document process, and articulate intentions. Studio courses emphasize inquiry, revision, and dialogue, and students work in creative shops with access to individual studios. Program-wide multidisciplinary critiques bring students, faculty, and staff together.

Studio courses are open to majors and non-majors. Students can exhibit in Vassar’s Palmer Gallery, and the Studio Art Major culminates in an independent Senior Project exhibition. The program includes an active visiting artists program and close collaboration with Vassar’s Art History program, supported by resources from The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center.
