Introduction

Earth Science is a Bachelor program taught at Vassar College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Earth Science at Vassar College studies the planet as a system of interacting spheres: the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and soil and rock sphere. Students also study deep time and the evolution of life using relics such as fossils and ice cores, to understand Earth’s history and its effects on the modern world.

The program includes two core introductory courses: The Solid Earth and The Fluid Earth. Students also take other introductory 100-level courses on topics such as geohazards, environmental justice, and local field geology. Intermediate work covers areas that include rocks, minerals, soils, mountain-building processes, oceanography, biogeochemistry, groundwater flow, volcanology, and geophysics. Many courses include field and lab experiences.
