Introduction

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a PhD program taught at Walden University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (18 months) options.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Walden University is an online doctoral program for advanced practice and leadership in nursing. Students develop advanced clinical skills and leadership competencies while refining clinical judgment, applying research to solve problems in nursing practice, and working toward a guided DNP project and practicum.

Completion includes 45 quarter credits: a foundation course (5 cr.), core courses (40 cr.), and field experience up to 8 cr. for students with fewer than 600 documented clinical hours. Students complete DNP project requirements, including the DNP Project Mentoring course (0 cr.) and Doctoral DNP Project Completion if needed. Walden also describes DNP program completion as taking up to eight years unless an extension is petitioned.

The curriculum includes courses such as Essentials of Evidence Based Practice; Leading Quality Improvement Practice for Practicum Projects; DNP Project and Practicum; Epidemiology and Population Health; and Transforming Nursing and Healthcare Through Technology. The program includes practicum hours: a minimum of 80 hours for the practicum projects course, and a minimum of 160 hours for DNP Project and Practicum.
