DAAD-ERP Study Scholarships

ERP Study Scholarships are sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). DAAD-ERP Study Scholarships aim to provide foreign graduates of Economics and Business Administration with opportunities to complete a master’s degree course at a state (public) or state-recognised German higher education institution and gain a master’s degree in Germany in Economics and Business Administration.

Applicants are required to be “excellently-qualified” graduates who have completed a first degree (Bachelor, Diplom or comparable academic degree) in Economics and Business Administration by the time they commence the scholarship-supported study programme. The funded programme is a complete master’s degree programme in Germany.

Selection is made by selection committees in the home countries. Funding runs for 18–24 months for degree courses with a duration of 3 or 4 semesters. To receive further funding after the first year of study, proof of academic achievements must indicate that the study programme can be successfully completed within the standard period of study.

• Applicant status: foreign graduate of Economics and Business Administration
• Qualification: “excellently-qualified” graduate
• Education: completed a first degree (Bachelor, Diplom or comparable academic degree) in the field of Economics and Business Administration at the latest by the time the scholarship-supported study programme begins
• Timing of prior degree: as a rule, final examinations of the last academic degree completed no longer than six years before the time of application
• Admission applications: must apply to three host universities for admission to studies simultaneously
• Admission impact: the DAAD scholarship award letter becomes effective only if the notification of admission is presented to the DAAD in due time before the beginning of the scholarship
• Residence exclusion: application cannot be considered if the applicant has been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline
• Application completeness: incomplete applications cannot be considered
• Language of instruction: German for study programmes in Germany; or English; or German and English for international programmes
• Language proficiency proof: must provide proof of proficiency in the language of instruction (German, English, or German and English) for the chosen study programme
• German language certificates usually eligible: TestDaF; DSH; Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz (DSD); Goethe-Zertifikat; Österreichisches Sprachdiplom; telc Deutsch; onSET Deutsch
• English language certificates that can be submitted, for example: Cambridge English; Cambridge Business; IELTS; ISE; TOEFL iBT; TOEFL Essentials; TOEIC; PTE Academic; onSET English
• Language certificates submitted via DAAD portal: certificates must be submitted to the DAAD portal even if the university does not require proof of language skills

• Scholarship payments: 992 euros per month
• Study allowance: 460 euros per year
• Insurance: payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
• Travel allowance: travel allowance (upon application only)
• German language course funding: selection committee may fund attendance of a German language course at a language school in Germany for two months before the scholarship-supported studies begin
• Further payments: further payments can be paid upon application (family allowances cannot be paid)

1. Register on the DAAD portal.
2. Complete the online application in full.
3. In the DAAD portal, upload the required application documents in the section “Attachments”.
4. Submit the required documents to the DAAD portal by the application deadline; incomplete applications cannot be considered.
5. Ensure the scholarship award letter becomes effective by presenting notification of admission to the DAAD in due time before the beginning of the scholarship; if admission has not yet been received at the time of application, submit it before the funding period begins.

• Full curriculum vitae in tabular form (max. 3 pages)
• Statement about academic and personal reasons for the planned study project in Germany (letter of motivation; 1–2 pages), uploaded under “study project/motivation”
• Letter of admission to the study programme at the host university in Germany (or to be submitted before the funding period begins if notification is not yet available)
• Form “Information about your preferred master programmes” (completed and uploaded under “course profile” in the DAAD portal)
• University degree certificate indicating final grade(s) (to be subsequently submitted by the time funding starts if not yet completed at the time of application)
• Proof of knowledge of language(s) of instruction in the chosen study programme (should be no older than 3 years); submitted via the DAAD portal
• One recent supporting letter of recommendation from a university teacher
• German or English translations of documents submitted in the national language
• School leaving certificate with all individual grades incl. explanation of grading system
• All university certificates on all annual examinations with individual grade(s), incl. explanation of grading system
• Optional: other documents the applicant thinks might be of relevance (e.g. certificates of employment, proof of placements)
