DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Scholarships . Germany (Public Policy & Governance)

DAAD’s Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (Master’s Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance - PPGG) is designed to academically qualify future leaders in Social & Political Science, Law, Economics, Public Policy and Administration under the principles of Good Governance. DAAD states the programme prepares scholarship holders for a practice-oriented professional life and enables them to contribute later to democratically oriented economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social tensions.

The scholarship scheme targets very well qualified graduates with a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent) who want to actively contribute to the social and economic development of their home countries or regions. DAAD states it is open to candidates from developing and emerging countries and is offered for both young graduates without professional experience and mid-career professionals.

The programme provides scholarships for selected master’s courses at German institutions in different cities. DAAD states the selected courses focus on areas including Public Policy, Good Governance, International Relations, Public Management, Public Administration, Civil Society, Geo-Governance, Peace and Conflict Studies, Development and Socio-Economic Policies, and are taught in English. DAAD states scholarship holders study in small groups, receive special tutoring, and attend networking events and tailor-made workshops.

DAAD states that before starting the master’s studies, scholarship holders take part in German courses in Germany for up to six months. DAAD also describes an expectation that scholarship holders later contribute to democratically oriented economic and social systems in their home country or region aimed at overcoming social tensions.
