DAAD Pakistan Postgraduate Studies in the Field of the Performing Arts

DAAD offers this scholarship programme to enable postgraduate or continuing study in Germany and to promote the exchange of experience and networking among colleagues. It funds study at a state or state-recognised German university in selected performing-arts artistic fields.

Applicants must have gained a first university degree in the field of the Performing Arts by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme. The funded options include a Master’s/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification, or a complementary non-degree course (not undergraduate) connected to a university in Germany through verified supervision.

Selection starts with a formal check of application requirements and completeness after uploading application documents to the DAAD portal. If the application is complete, applicants must submit an artistic portfolio. A committee makes the final decision based on the written application and artistic portfolio. Funding lasts for the standard period of study for the chosen programme (up to a maximum of 24 months for degree programmes, or one academic year for complementary studies), with additional language-learning services offered in preparation for the stay.

• Status: Graduates
• First university degree: Applicants must have gained a first university degree in the field of the Performing Arts by the latest time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme.
• Field of funding: Only projects in the artistic field of the Performing Arts are funded (Drama, Theatre Directing/Theatre Dramaturgy, Musicals, Performance Studies, Dance, Choreography).
• German host institution: Funded study must be at a state or state-recognised German university of the applicant’s choice.
• Degree or non-degree option: Applicants may apply for a Master’s/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification, or complementary studies without degree (not undergraduate).
• Complementary studies connection: For complementary non-degree studies, the connection to a university in the fields of art in Germany is mandatory and must be verified with confirmation of supervision.
• Study already started in Germany: Funding for a Master’s/postgraduate programme that has already started in Germany cannot be granted.
• Enrolment abroad period (if applicable): If the Master’s/postgraduate programme includes a study period abroad, funding for that period abroad is usually only possible if the study visit is essential for achieving the scholarship objective, does not take place in the home country, and is no longer than a quarter of the scholarship period (for joint and double-degree programmes up to 50%, if specified in the study regulations). Longer periods cannot be funded, even partially.
• Applicability by status/country of origin lists: If status and/or country of origin are not on DAAD’s listed options for this programme, the programme cannot be applied for.

• Monthly payment: 992 euros

• Additional benefits under certain circumstances: monthly rent subsidy
• Additional benefits under certain circumstances: monthly allowance for accompanying members of family
• Additional benefits under certain circumstances: disability or chronic illness subsidy for justified additional costs incurred abroad that are necessary to realise the project in Germany and are not covered by a third party (reviewed individually)
• Additional benefits under certain circumstances: Green Mobility Top Up (support for climate-friendly travel) or reimbursement of carbon offset payments for air travel
• German learning services: payment of course fees for an online language course after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter
• German learning services: if necessary, a German language course before the start of the study visit in Germany (2, 4 or 6 months); participation is compulsory if the language of instruction or working language is German at the German host institution
• German learning services: allowance for a personally chosen German language course during the scholarship period
• German learning services: reimbursement of the fee for a TestDaF or DSH test (taken in the home country after the Letter of Award or in Germany during the funding period)
• Tuition fees: not covered

1. Upload your application documents to the DAAD portal.
2. After uploading, DAAD carries out a formal check to verify that application requirements are met and that the application is complete.
3. If the formal check is passed, submit your artistic portfolio.
4. If you receive scholarship confirmation before the scholarship starts, hand in the admission letter in case of a scholarship confirmation before the scholarship starts.
