Heidelberg University Germany Robert and Christine Danziger Scholarship

The Robert and Christine Danziger Scholarship is awarded to very good doctoral candidates from Africa who need help funding their doctorate at Heidelberg University. It covers doctoral study in Geography (with a focus on Geoinformatics) or Political Science.

The scholarship is aimed at applicants who are from Africa (primarily Ghana or another country in West and Central Africa), plan a doctorate at Heidelberg University, and live/will live in Heidelberg or the surrounding area. Applicants must also apply additionally for a doctorate at Heidelberg University in one of the listed fields, because the scholarship application is separate from the doctorate application.

Selection is based on the requirements the candidate meets: the applicant must be among the best in their field, need help with funding the doctorate, and be planning the doctorate at Heidelberg University in the relevant field. If the interim review shows no recognisable timely progress, the approval may be revoked.

The scholarship provides 1,500 € per month. The maximum funding period is 36 months; initial approval usually covers 24 months. Before the end of the first funding year, the doctoral candidate and the supervisor submit reports; an extension of up to 12 months is possible in justified exceptional cases. During support, simultaneous receipt of another scholarship is not possible, and limits apply to self-employment allowances and potential graduate assistant positions.
