Overview

The University of Galway AI Power Electronics PhD Scholarship invites applications for a full-time funded PhD scholarship affiliated to the Power Electronics Research Centre (PERC) in the School of Engineering at the University of Galway, in collaboration with the Tyndall National Institute. The project is funded by Research Ireland under the RINN Semiconductors Centre.

The PhD project focuses on power electronics circuits based on magnetics-on-silicon devices for high-performance AI computing loads. The research includes designing novel power converter topologies (DC/DC), developing equivalent circuit models of magnetics-on-silicon devices, characterising magnetics-on-silicon devices under typical circuit conditions, and designing, building, and testing a prototype converter.

Selection is not described in the provided page text. The entry requirements include academic qualifications and relevant knowledge and experience, and the application requires a single PDF with a CV and a cover letter describing how experience aligns with the role and why the project interests the applicant.

The scholarship provides a living allowance (stipend) of €25,000 per annum (tax-exempt scholarship award) and EU tuition fees covered for 4 years maximum. The start date is 1 October. No further obligations after support are stated in the page text.
