Italy postgraduate placements at Sapienza University of Rome

Sapienza Università di Roma offers the International Post-degree Scholarship through a call based on qualifications and exams. It provides scholarships for courses or advanced training activities at international university institutions under Law No. 398 of 30 November.

The scholarship is for Sapienza Master's degree graduates or single-cycle master's degree graduates or equivalent. It supports participation in third-cycle study programmes or postgraduate advanced training activities at international university-level institutions located outside Italy, with an additional requirement for non-Italian citizens that the host country is different from their country of origin.

Selection is based on curricular exams and achieved titles. A Selection Committee scores candidates up to 100 points for evaluation of each candidate, including up to 50 points for the degree final grade, previously attained titles and publications. Suitable candidates are contacted for an interview to verify preparation in the selected disciplinary field and knowledge in the language requested by the hosting foreign institution, with up to 50 points for the interview. A score under 35 points is considered not sufficient.

The scholarship covers a minimum duration of 6 months and a maximum duration of 12 months, with the monthly amount set at €1,290.00. Scholarship holders must maintain the compulsory requirements during the scholarship period and cannot benefit from other scholarships during the period abroad, except for those that may integrate the activity. Scholarship holders must also not have income above € 7.750,000 for the major part of the calendar year when receiving the scholarship, and must begin the specialization activity within the end of the calendar year after the call was promulgated. Scholarship benefit starts from the day after the interview.

• Recipient category: Sapienza Master’s degree graduates or single-cycle master’s degree or equivalent
• Age: 28 years old or younger by the announcement of the call
• Must submit only one application for admission, relating to a single CUN disciplinary area corresponding to their degree class
• Must obtain an official acceptance and/or invitation letter and/or a declaration of availability to admission from a hosting foreign institution or from a foreign supervisor, drafted on headed and certified paper
• For third level studies or post-lauream specialization abroad: host institution must be located outside Italy; for non-Italian citizens, the host country must be different from the candidate’s country of origin
• PhD students may participate only if: without a PhD scholarship, authorized by the PhD Faculty board to suspend doctoral studies for specialization abroad; with a PhD scholarship, only by renouncing the PhD scholarship
• Students enrolled in “Scuole di specializzazione” may participate only if: they aren’t winners of other scholarships and only if authorized by the specialization school’s board
• Students who win a scholarship for “Scuola di specializzazione” cannot simultaneously benefit from the foreign specialization activity’s scholarship
• Cannot apply for a CUN disciplinary area for which the candidate does not have the requested degree; the application is rejected if the degree indicated in the referred CUN area is not held

• Monthly scholarship amount: € 1,290.00 per month
• Duration: minimum 6 months; maximum 12 months
• Scholarships for attendance of courses or advanced training activities are exempt from Irpef treatment pursuant to Article 4 of Law 476/84

1. Draft the application in pdf format according to the model attached to the call.
2. Send the application exclusively by certified and accredited personal electronic mail (PEC) to [email protected].
3. Include the required attachments: (a) official certification from the foreign institution/international university or a certified declaration from a professor, (b) self-declaration of publications and previously attained titles, and (c) translation into Italian of documentation released in a language other than English, if applicable.
4. Submit the application by September 16, 2026 under penalty of exclusion from the selection process.
5. Attend the interview if contacted by the Selection Committee to verify preparation and language knowledge requested by the hosting foreign institution.
6. After admission, admitted candidates must produce: (a) a self-declaration reporting possession of compulsory requirements stated in the call with the obligation to maintain them during the scholarship period, and (b) a new certification from the international institution indicating the starting and final date of the specialization activity.

• Official certification provided by the foreign institution or international university abroad (or a certified declaration provided by a professor of the same university) containing acceptance or possible acceptability to the chosen course of study or postgraduate specialization activity
• Self-declaration of publications and previously attained titles (pdf according to the format mentioned in point 1)
• Translation into Italian of the documentation released by the foreign or international institution mentioned in the acceptance certification section (only if initially released in a language other than English)
• For admitted candidates: self-declaration reporting possession of compulsory requirements stated in the call, with obligation to maintain them during the scholarship period
• For admitted candidates: a new certification released by the international institution indicating the starting and final date of the specialization activity
