Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering

The Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering at University of Technology Jamaica provides education in the theory and practice of chemical engineering. Students study the application of physical sciences and economics to design and operate processes affecting material state, composition, or energy content, with consideration for environmental factors. The program prepares students to research, develop, and analyze chemical engineering processes and design safe and environmentally responsible products. The program offers two pathways: a four-year pathway with 8 semesters and a three-year accelerated pathway with 6 semesters, both excluding summer semesters. Modules cover chemical reaction engineering, process control, plant design, bioreaction engineering, and include a major research and design project, with professional skills development through entrepreneurship, management, statistics, technical writing, and industrial work experience.

• Five (5) CSEC/GCE O-level passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and at least one (1) of the following: Biology, Human & Social Biology, Integrated Science, Agricultural Science, Food, Nutrition & Health, Family & Resource Management, Information Technology, Additional Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Industrial Technology or equivalent subject; OR Successful completion of Year One of the UTech, Ja Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.05
• Six (6) CAPE Units including Mathematics Units I and II and Chemistry Units I and II or GCE A-level passes in Mathematics and Chemistry; OR Successful completion of UTech Ja. Diploma in Engineering or equivalent field of study with possible interview; OR Successful completion of Associate of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent field of study from an approved institution; OR Successful completion of the Preliminary Engineering Year at UWI, Mona, or equivalent with possible interview
