Bachelor in Translation and Interpreting

The Management and Science University (MSU) Bachelor in Translation and Interpreting (Honours) focuses on translation and interpreting. The curriculum balances translation and interpreting fundamentals with theoretical aspects. Students study translation and interpreting courses including specialized translator topics, translation assessment, and translation project work, alongside language courses such as Malay Language and Mandarin Language.

Course content includes options such as Introduction to Translation Studies, Translation Strategies, History of Interpreting, Discourse Analysis, Professional English, and English for Occupational Purposes. The programme runs for 3 years and carries 120 credit hours. The career focus includes work as a freelance translator/interpreter or in-house translator/interpreter roles.

Entrance qualification based on program standard (language):

Other than English Language Programme

• A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any two (2) subjects or its equivalent; OR
• A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Jayyid; OR
• A Diploma (Level 4, MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or its equivalent; OR
• Matriculation/Foundation with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or its equivalent.
• AND
• A credit in the relevant language at SPM level or its equivalent for those who intend to major in Bahasa Melayu, Arabic, Chinese or Tamil. For language programmes other than Bahasa Melayu, Arabic, Chinese or Tamil, the minimum credit in English at SPM or its equivalent is required.

International students are required to achieve a minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS OR Band 3 of MUET OR its equivalent.

For English Language Programme

• A pass in STPM with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any two (2) subjects or its equivalent and a credit in English at SPM or its equivalent; OR
• A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid and a credit in English at SPM or its equivalent; OR
• A Diploma (Level 4, MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or its equivalent and a credit in English at SPM or its equivalent; OR
• Matriculation/Foundation with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or its equivalent and a credit in English at SPM or its equivalent; OR
• A minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS or its equivalent.

Note: The credit requirement of English, Bahasa Melayu, Arabic, Chinese or Tamil at SPM level can be waived should the grade obtained at STPM/STAM level or its equivalent is higher.

• International students: minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS OR Band 3 of MUET OR its equivalent.
• For English Language Programme: a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS or its equivalent.
