Bachelor of Information Technology Honours Majoring in Data Science

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) Majoring in Data Science develops knowledge in information science, including how information is collected, stored, retrieved, and used. Core studies cover areas such as web systems and technologies, databases, statistics for information technology, and programming principles and techniques, with further specialization in Data Science topics such as information retrieval, data warehousing and data mining, big data analytics, data visualization, and data science.

The programme is delivered through a conventional and open distance learning mode. It includes internship for Information Technology and elective courses that are hands-on and practical, plus a final year project paper with a minor project and a major project. Students also study internship / professional practice through Internship for Information Technology.

• STPM: A pass in STPM with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.0) in any 2 subjects and a credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent; OR
• Note: Candidate with a credit in computing related subject at SPM or STPM level or its equivalent may be given preferential consideration.
• Diploma / Advanced Diploma: In Computer Science or Software Engineering or Information Technology or Information Systems or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 and a credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent or Any other Diploma in Science and technology or business studies with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 may be admitted, subject to a rigorous internal assessment process and a credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent.
• Matriculation / Foundation: A pass in Matriculation or Foundation studies with minimum CGPA of 2.0 and a credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent.
• Note: Candidate with a credit in computing related subject at SPM or STPM level or its equivalent may be given preferential consideration.
