Master of Education Teaching of English As a Second Language

The Master of Education (Teaching of English as a Second Language) is a postgraduate program designed to equip graduates to teach English to young learners and adults. It supports English learning in school settings and for future career skill improvement, with preparation for leadership and strategic roles in education, including course design, curriculum planning, management, administration, and policy-making.

The program is structured around compulsory and discipline core courses, including Foundations of Education, Psychology of Learning, Learners and Instruction, and Assessment in Education. It also includes Technology and Learning Design, Curriculum and Instruction in Education, Language Teaching Methodology, and Second Language Teaching and Learning, plus Language Planning, Policies and in ESL, and TESL Approaches in 21st Century Learning Cross Cultural Communication. The research component includes Research Methodology, Research Project, and Project Paper.

Bachelor's Degree

• Bachelor’s Degree Education (Hons) / Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Education with a minimum CGPA 2.50 from an institution recognized by the Malaysian government; or
• Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) and Diploma in Education/ Certificate in Education/ Diploma in Teaching a minimum CGPA 50 from an institution recognized by the Malaysian government; or
• Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) or its equivalent, with an minimum CGPA 2.50, as accepted by the Senate; or
• Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) with CGPA less than 2.50, can be accepted subject to five (5) years working experience in the related field.

International

• A minimum score of Band 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
• a minimum score of 550 for a paper-based total or 80 for an Internet-based total for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
• a minimum of Grade C in First Cambridge English (FCE) minimum scale 169, or B2 in CEFR, or Pearson Test of English (PTE 50-58) as required proficiency; or
• a recognized first degree was undertaken in English medium; or
• successful attainment of FCE minimum of Grade C (169) conducted by the Centre for English Language (CEL) within 12 months from the date of entry with a conditional offer letter.

APEL

• Applicants into the Master’s program (level 7, MQF) through APEL, must be a Malaysian citizen aged more than 30 years of age in the year of application, have STPM/ Diploma/ A-Level or its equivalent with relevant work experience/ prior experiential learning and passed APEL assessment.

A minimum score of Band 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or a minimum score of 550 for a paper-based total or 80 for an Internet-based total for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or a minimum of Grade C in First Cambridge English (FCE) minimum scale 169, or B2 in CEFR, or Pearson Test of English (PTE 50-58) as required proficiency; or a recognized first degree was undertaken in English medium; or successful attainment of FCE minimum of Grade C (169) conducted by the Centre for English Language (CEL) within 12 months from the date of entry with a conditional offer letter.

• Writer, Author, or Content Curator – Crafting compelling content for books, websites, or educational platforms.
• Digital Copywriter or Editor – Producing and refining content for online and print media with a sharp eye for language.
• Lexicographer or Publishing Specialist – Working on dictionaries, educational resources, or publishing projects.
• Web Content or Social Media Manager – Managing online presence, creating digital campaigns, and connecting with global audiences.
• Public Relations or Communications Specialist – Crafting persuasive messages for organisations, events, or media outreach.
• Journalist or Editorial Manager – Reporting, writing, and editing for newspapers, magazines, or online publications.
• Event Manager – Planning and executing educational or cultural events that connect communities through language.
