The Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (2+2) is a four-year programme with two years at the University of Southampton Malaysia followed by two years at the University of Southampton in the UK. Students study mechanics, materials, thermofluids, and related engineering fundamentals before moving into more specialised areas such as automotive engineering, aerospace, manufacturing, and sustainable energy systems.
The programme is delivered through year-by-year module progression. Year One covers modules including Data Science and Computing for Engineers, Mechanics, Structures and Materials, and Thermofluids. Year Three includes an Individual Project and modules such as Finite Element Analysis in Solid Mechanics and Heat Transfer and Applications. In Year Four, students complete a Group Design Project and choose specialist modules. An optional Industrial Placement Year (IPY) in the UK is possible for all specialisations, and all students complete relevant General Studies (MPU) modules required by Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education.
