Letje Lips Amsterdam Merit Scholarship at University of Amsterdam

The Letje Lips Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (LLAMS) is awarded to a student from a non-privileged background who wants to use a Master’s programme at the Graduate School of Humanities to better themselves and shows a passion for the development of a just, inclusive and multicultural world. The University of Amsterdam states that for the academic year, four (4) LLAMS scholarships of €37,500 are available.

LLAMS eligibility includes holding a non-EU/EEA nationality and not being eligible for the statutory tuition fees. The University of Amsterdam also requires that you are a first-time student at a university (of applied sciences) in the Netherlands, and that you submitted a complete application at the Graduate School of Humanities for a one-year, non-selective English-taught Master’s programme (Research and Dual Master’s are not eligible). Students who are currently enrolled on a pre-Master’s programme in the Netherlands (including UvA) or those who have completed an exchange programme at a Dutch university are not eligible.

The University of Amsterdam states that applications for the LLAMS are evaluated by a selection committee. The scholarship application must be submitted in parallel with the Master’s application, and both are reviewed by different committees. Applicants will be informed of the outcome no later than mid-May, and the LLAMS is only awarded to a (conditionally) accepted candidate.

The University of Amsterdam indicates that LLAMS provides €37,500 and does not cover the full amount of stay and study. Selected candidates must have handed in certified documents (diploma or gradation statement, final transcripts) by 1 August at the latest. Conditions also include full-time enrolment at the UvA for the academic year by 31 August, ability to comply with visa regulations, and ability to pay certain fees (such as housing and immigration fee) prior to arrival (around May/June).

• Research and Dual Master’s are not eligible.
• You don’t need to have obtained your Admissions result at the time of the LLAMS deadline, but the LLAMS will only be awarded to a (conditionally) accepted candidate.
• You have not been granted another scholarship in addition to the LLAMS; you must notify the Admissions Office of the Graduate School of Humanities if you have been awarded another scholarship.
• If selected and conditionally accepted, you need to have handed in certified documents (diploma or gradation statement, final transcripts) by 1 August 2026 at the latest.
• You have to be able to comply with the visa regulations.
• You have to be fully enrolled at the UvA as a full-time student for the academic year 2026-2027, by 31 August 2026.
• You need to be able to pay certain fees, such as your housing and immigration fee, prior to your arrival (around May/June).
• You are able to fund the rest of your studies and stay at the University of Amsterdam.
• The LLAMS does not cover the full amount of stay and study.

1. Submit your complete application for a Master’s programme in SIS (instructions on how to apply for a Master’s programme are available under “Application”).
2. Submit your SIS application by 15 January 2026, 23:59 CET.
3. After submitting your SIS application, fill out and submit your LLAMS application using the LLAMS application portal link (available from 9 December 2025 until the deadline).
4. Submit both your Master’s application and the LLAMS application before 15 January 2026, 23:59 CET.
5. Ensure your LLAMS application is complete, as late or incomplete LLAMS applications will not be considered.
