LION Scholarship - MSc program in Physics

The LION scholarship is awarded by the Leiden Institute of Physics (LION) using funds made available by the Den Adel Fund for Experimental Physics and the Lorentz Fund for Theoretical Physics. Leiden University states that the scholarship is awarded for academic merit.

Leiden University describes the target group as Master applicants. It specifies eligibility for non-Dutch nationals and that the scholarship relates to the MSc program in Physics.

Leiden University states that about 10% of admitted candidates are awarded a scholarship based on academic merit. The scholarship is renewable for a second year subject to satisfactory performance, defined as 60EC with a GPA greater than 8 in the first year.

Each scholarship is €6000 per year and is awarded for one year, renewable for the second year if performance criteria are met. Leiden University also states that scholarships do not exempt from Leiden University tuition fees and do not exempt from providing proof of sufficient funds for the Dutch student visa/residence permit application for non EER nationals.

1. Apply for admission to the MSc program in Physics through the Admission and application website; only applications complete before the deadline will be considered.
2. Prepare a motivation letter for admission that explicitly mentions the application to the fellowship and argues academic merit.
3. Ask two references to send a letter from your current study program supporting your fellowship application to [email protected].
4. Send an email to [email protected] to indicate that you apply for a LION scholarship.
